She will depict her hometown Saitama for the very first time as a photographer and set up a photo installation featuring the work.
NOGUCHI was born in 1971 in Saitama Prefecture and has lived in Berlin since 2004. She graduated from the Department of Photography, College of Art, Nihon University in 1994 and did graduate studies in Film/Image Art also Nihon University in 1995. In 2002, she won the 52nd Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s Art Encouragement Prize for New Artists, and in 2014 the 30th Higashikawa Award for a Domestic Photographer. Major solo exhibitions include “Light Reaching the Future” at IZU PHOTO MUSEUM, Shizuoka (2011-2012). Major group exhibitions include Sharjah Biennial 8 at Sharjah Art Museum/Expocentre Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (2007); 55th Carnegie International, Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh (2008-2009); “The Light: MATSUMOTO Yoko/NOGUCHI Rika” at The National Art Center, Tokyo in 2009; and the Yokohama Triennale 2011, at The Yokohama Museum of Art, Yokohama. Noguchi’s work is in the collections of The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; and the Centre Georges-Pompidou, Paris.
